I registered this domain in 1996, when I was part of the San Francisco early web scene. At that time domain registration had just opened up and it was easy and free to register anything. I was conservative and only registered my name, while some people I knew registered hundreds.

What I loved about that time was the optimism and fascination around new technology, and the way our minds were blown again and again. Email, networked terminals, chatting, the World Wide Web — all of these seminal technologies were emerging, and the possibilities were seductive, utopian, and at our fingertips. We hung out together IRL, online we were on the same listservs, we started companies and worked long, odd hours in the service of making really cool shit.

Thirty years have gone by since then. Some of us got crazy rich. Most of us sinewed our way through a variety of roles in tech companies, getting better with technology, management, leading, maybe taking a few breaks or perhaps starting companies. I’m in the latter category. Enthusiastic, bullish on tech, continuing to bring my best self and my best optimism to building, designing, and making the world a better place through technology.

AI feels a lot like the beginning of the web to me. In the 90s there was no school to attend, no template to learn from. You had to dive in and learn it yourself, by doing. I thrive in this environment.

Here I am again, building and learning in the code. I’m a gray-hair now, I’ve moved to the woods, and I’m doing the 2026 version of that early internet me. Learning, building, trying. And writing a bit along the way.
